What is K to 12?
Before the K to 12 program, the Philippines had implemented a 10-year basic education system with six years of elementary education and four years of high school education. In the new K to 12 program of the Department of Education, there will be mandatory kindergarten, six years of elementary education, four years of junior high school, and two years of senior high school.
According to the Departnement of Education, the K to 12 basic education program is a decongested educationsystem with a learner-centered curriculum producing globally competitive graduates (http://www.gov.ph/k-12/).
For more information about what the current educational system looks like, please view the Prezi below!

"A proposal to extend the basic education system by two years would create, for the first time, grades 11 and 12. The plan has inspired a wave of protests and legal challenges."
